Migrants, actors and vectors of
intercultural dialogue
Strasbourg, 16.05.2007- Bringing
the migrants' perspective to the White Paper of the Council of Europe on
Intercultural Dialogue is the main objective of the Consultation on
"Migrants: actors and vectors of Intercultural Dialogue" which will
take place on 21 and 22 May in Lisbon (Centro
Ismaeli, Avenida Lusiada).
This consultation is organised by the Directorate
General of Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport, the Directorate
General of Social Cohesion and the North-South
Centre of the Council of Europe, in parternship with the Portuguese High
Commission for Immigration and Ethnic Minorities, the Forum of Migrants
Solidarity Organisations and the Aga Khan Development Network.
The
meeting is taking place in the framework of the consultation for the
elaboration of the Council of Europe « White Paper on Intercultural
Dialogue »(*). This White Paper will provide guidelines and analytical and
methodological tools for the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
The consultation meeting will bring together 60
experts both from the North and South. The debates will follow three main
themes: the role of migrants in intercultural dialogue, the perspective of the
European Committee on Migration and current policies of integration.
The opening session will take place on Monday 21 May,
at 9.00 in the presence of Rui Marques, Portuguese High Commissioner for
Immigration and Ethnic Minorities, Nazim Ahmad, Representative of the Aga Khan
Development Network and Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Director General of
Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport – Co-ordinator for
Intercultural Dialogue, Council of Europe.
