Following the recent Early Day Motion 750, put forth by Stephen Williams we at the British Youth Council would like to express our interest in this campaign. The British Youth Council is very concerned with the recent attacks on homosexuals and homosexuality by members of the Polish government as well as the public silence of the government in challenging the verbal and physical abuses which are currently taking place. As a result we are seeking to run a campaign on this issue focused at young people in the UK to speak out against these abuses and encourage MPs and MEPs to take action and hold the Polish government to account for their actions. Aware that DELGA is supporting a petition to the United Nations and is currently running a campaign to get local MPs to sign the current EDM 750, I am hoping there is some way the DELGA and the BYC could work together to make this an even more effective campaign. As our campaign is relatively new I am initially looking to establish a large base of interested young people and create awareness of the issue. At the moment our main focuses are; · The recent EDM – I would like to build up as much support for that as possible, possibly through a similar request as the one on your website.· I have come across the All Different-All Equals campaign, and think the action week in Warsaw at the beginning of March is a very important event for people to display support, therefore I hope inform people of this event and possibly create a UK presence at Warsaw. Has the DELGA thought about using this event in any respect towards their current campaign against the Polish government’s homophobic remarks?
If you would be interested in meeting with us to discuss different strategies and ways in which we could further the campaign and consider a possible coalition please contact Maeve at campaigns@byc.org.uk.
