Dear all,
Belgium is shocked by some awful current incidents in our country: some innocent people got killed or injured because of racist motives. No words can describe the ugliness of this. It’s very hard now to keep up the positive message we are trying to send, especially if you know one of the perpetrators is only 18 years old. But we keep on going because we’re sure the majority of Flemish children and youngsters believe in a diverse society. So we ask them to show that, for example during the silent march in Antwerp next Friday.
Because of this all, the text of our campaign songs is more than ever relevant. You can find it (in Dutch and English) as an attachment. And you can download the songs for free at our campaign website: www.allemaalanders.be, under the heading ‘Music Maestro!’.
We have 4 different songs ‘The other one’ with the same text: 1 punk version in English by X!nk (participants Eurosong for Kids in 2003), 1 song you can describe as future soul by Sweet Coffee (also in English with a Dutch parlando in the end), 1 electronic song in an Antwerp dialect by Stijn and 1 Dutch folk song by Sidus.
Three out of four songs are picked up by the major radio stations in Flanders, which is damn good. And we did have good media coverage because of it. Luckily we can count on the collaboration of some very talented and engaged artists to promote the campaign message. They wouldn’t mind sharing their music with other European Campaign Committees either!
