All Different All Equal

More educational materials needed for the campaign?

Training & Education

Hello

There are lots of different types of educational materials which exist on the different themes of the campaign. Some people think there are already too many and it is impossible to find your way through them all.

Do you think there should be more created specially for the campaign? If so, what types of activities or themes do you think are a priority??

I would be really interested to hear your replies!

thanks

a new idea!

Hello all!
My favourite game is "the island" in a version we have changed (not in the game, but in the debriefing) during a lot of training sessions... But I have experienced just now a new tool, made in Spain, about the life of an immigrant. It's very interesting the idea, in my opinion, and it's open source project. You can download the program (38 Mb) from www.bordergames.org.

not sure that this is good..

Hello Mark,

Great pleasure was to get acquainted and be Your student on SUMS 2005 in Estonia

I'm not sure that giving methodics without education how to use them is good. On symposium & 1st NCC meeting I sad that not good advertize "Compas" to people who never been on Training Cource (TC) & never make it..

I know some people who was on TC and after what told that they never want to participate in another TC. Just school teacher get from internet this methodic and want to try what is this.. Rezult was very bad..

I think is better to use multiplyers who is teached & know how to use methodic, because on this site everybody can take all..

But, my favourite exercises is "3 colours" & "limit 20"

I think in this campany is better to use exercises in which participants make any prezentations as in "3 colours" or so sportive as "limit 20".

re: not sure this is good...

Hello Igor

good to hear from you.

I understand your concerns and, indeed, if we look at the T-Kit on Social Inclusion in the part where they introduce some exercises the authors write:
"exercises are only tools, and as with every tool they can be used in good and bad ways,
just as a syringe can cure people or infect them with a deadly disease. So it is up to you to use these
exercises responsibly. Always start with defining your aims and then check if one of these exercises
could help you reach the aim, and not the other way around: doing an exercise and then noticing
it had the opposite effect."

The main idea of making a "zipped" publication will be to attract young people, educators, youth workers etc to the larger publications and there should be guidelines for using the materials included. We are not interested in just making a toolbox without a context.

One thing which is very noticeable now is the strategy worked out within the Human Rights Education Programme, where Compass-based training courses have been very successful in raising the quality of educational offers.

Back later with a proposal for the contents of the zipped publication for the campaign

Zipped update!

Hello there

through other channels I have received some replies to my requests for "most popular" exercises from Compass, Education Pack, etc.

At the moment the leaders of the pack are:

Making LInks - Compass

Take a step forward - Compass

&

Euro-Rail à la carte - Education Pack

There is still time to put forward your favourites!

greetings

More multimedia educational materials and so on

As an answer to mark....

Well.. personally I would say we need no more educational material of the kind that has been produced over the past years.. The zip-versions of existing materials would be great though, because quite some of the modules take ages to read and master, or even need a special instructions book hehe...

So, if new materials are produced, I would say that they should primairily be plain and simple. Besides, if it where up to me, I'd rather have some more "cool" materials that I could actually give to youngsters.

Oh and perhaps some more...multimedia oriented materials...  short impressive (not too educational) films for example, that could be used to start the discussion, and make people warm for the issues :)
I never forgot how my teacher showed us "American History X" during an educational module on racism and violence..  I believe I never listened better to the guy than the hours following the film :D

Zipped version!

Hello there

thanks for your ideas and reflections.

Indeed the idea for a zipped version of educational materials starts to take shape!

I am putting together a list of the most popular exercises from Compass, DOmino and the like in order to be able to decide which should go into the ZIP!

So: which are your favourite exercises forum people?

cheers

Mark
